lifts

This is the one I'd really like, just don't want to spend that much for limited use time

I don't really think a scissor lift would work well with a 993. The lifting points block a significant part of the underside of the car.

A two post lift gives you some space to work with.

But is your 964 a C4? I have a C4S and need the access to the torque tube and viscous coupling.

No its a C2. I am not sure where those parts are on a C4 so cant say if it will. i do have total access to the engine and steering areas.

Could you possibly take a few other angle pics for me (maybe stand on it raised looking down onto it.)? I have looked at that unit, but need access down the center to get to the VC and torque tube. Do you feel its possible to drop the motor and tranny while on that lift?

Thanks

New Scissor Lift.....

Got this 2 weeks ago from HF for $1199 plus $38 shipping and handling. Notice how close it is with the Bendpak lift.

I copied what's below from one of my posts on Rennlist. I ultimately purchase the Eagle Mid Rise. It seems that the Habor Freight, Eagle and Bend Pak are all the same at least as far as 1 and 2 below.

From checking around it seems that these lifts are comprised of three major componets.
1-The lift it self
2-The hydraulic cylinders
3-The control assembly

It seems that all, including Mohawk buy the lift from China. The only exception is, maybe Wheeltronic, owned by Snap On and based in Canada. I could not get a definitive answer from them.

The hyraulic cylinders on the Eagle Mid Rise are of Chinese manufactor. They come installed on the lift when it arrives from China. The parts person at Ealge said they have not had problems with them and they have the parts to rebuild them it necessary.

I've been told the Eagle Mid Rise has a Monark control assembly which is made in the United States. Monark makes high quality control units.

The parts person at Eagle told me they sell Chinese control units and USA control unit should you need to replace one. He recommended against the Chinese unit. I think that's why they sell them new with the Monark unit.

hey Ron, nice to see ya, doing alright?
Is the control unit as big of a deal as the cylinder? The control is what, just the valve control for the hydralic pump (up and down accuator)? The Bend Pak's seem to be the best all around deal. HF sort of scares me with the quality of some of their tools and products. You buy from them for the cheap "use it a few times and toss it out" tools.

Chris,

Pretty busy doing a bunch of work on another older Mercedes I got, a wagon. Actually the MB is on the lift right now.

The control unit is very important. It the thing on the stand that has the resorvior, motor and pump.

If the Habor Freight has a Monark pump, and a Baldor industrial motor I think it is the same as the one I have.

Thumbs up

Below is a photo how to use scissor lift to work on center of car.
1-lift car to desired height.
2-place jackstands under car.
3-lower lift.

I need to do this so I can change ATF fluid and filter.

They do look close. I paid $1400 for mine w/shipping. I dont think you could drop the motor and trans in one piece unless the rear cross bar was moved forward possibly with added bolt holes in the frame welded thread bolts on the bar. Its for side to side strength. Dont think i would slide the support plates back as far as any additional holes that may be drilled. It also has 3 additional parts that can be used to raise the lift points. So far its done all i needed.

So...to remove the engine and tranny with the scissor lift could you lift the car up, place it on jackstands, move the lift out of the way, and lower the engine/tranny onto a floor jack or one of those lift cart things?

I need a portable lift, something that I can drop the engine and trans together.
I guess I'd need something that has the center section open
right?
If I buy a lift, I don't think I'd like to screw around with jack stands.... kind of defeats the purpose.

Ron, where do you lift it from if the jackstands need to go under the lifting point pads? Whee did you get your lift again?
