Bilstein PSS 9 Reviews
Does anyone have any feedback on the installation and adjustability of the PSS 9?
Also, any good sources for this kit? It looks like $2,200 is about the best price for the 993 kit. If you've seen lower, I'd love to hear where. |

I have seen 1900. but you have to hagle with them. Its a 9 way adjustable...pretty simple..though you mess up your alignment if you go back and forth on adjustments. Owners swear by them; however, I don't have actual experience. I am going to put some track time on my originals before I make the swap.

Thanks for the reply! Any idea of who might let a set go for 1900?

I did a google search and found someone out of New Jersey..I forgot the name...however, If you tell a supplier your shopping, they come down in price.

Steve Weiner of Rennsport Systems (posts on this board) is a big fan and sells them as well.
I'm planning the suspension for my 993 and Tyson is not big fan - says the springs are too soft. But this depends on your purpose. Mine is 90% track, so mo stiff mo betta. YMMV

Another great alternative is the Bilstein HDs along with the M030 ROW (Euro) springs. Great and nicely matched damper/spring package. HD's are about half the cost of PSS9 kit and perform great! All Bilstein HD's now have the extra threads on the front dampers for lower ride heights.
There have been more than a few PSS9 users that have had trouble with them. Knobs falling off, adjusters seized etc. I certainly hope by now Bilstein has a handle on these troubles, some of which can very well be installer related. Steve Weiner is an excellent source for your suspension needs as he stands behind what he sells. Virtually unlimited customer support! |

I am leaning to-wards the JICs when the time comes. H&R w/ Bilstein sports would be a very serviceable lower cost alternative Motons or other high end remote reservoir shock are a higher end alternative

I have PSS-9s on my 993 and JIC on my 964.
When I tracked the 993, I liked the adjustability of the PSS-9s (but it is a pain to get them set as the "clicks" are non-existant). Full soft for street and much more firm for the track. The adjustment knobs are held on by one very small allen screw. The shaft it attaches to is round. This makes it easy to have problems with the adjustment knob. The JIC have 15 real clicks of adjustment (easy to feel each click) and you can even get "remote" adjusters for the rear (easier to reach to change). On the JIC the rear adjustment is on the top, not the bottom. I don't see much need for either PSS-9 or JIC unless you plan to use your daily driver at the track. As Bill says, the sports are a great way to go to improve the suspension of a daily driver or one that only sees 1-2 days a year at the track.

Hi Tom,
Not to hijack the thread too much, but what is your vote for a 993 that will see 10-15 DE/TT days a year, with nil street driving? Go with the H&R red springs and bilstein sports ; PSS9's ; H&R coilovers? I can't seem to find Bilstein sports though - seems like most catalogs have HD's and PSS9's. Don

I just put PSS9's on my 97 TT and so far I like them. So far the only thing I don't like about them is how much of a PITA they are to adjust the ride height in the rear. After I installed them, I decided to lower it about an inch. The strut mount had to be lowered and theres not enough room so the control arm needs to be removed. I had it apart a few times before I got it where I wanted it. This could get quite expensive if your paying someone to do the install/corner balance. The other problem I had was getting sway bar links to fit. I bought the drop links that put the sway bar below the control arm. I didn't like that set up so I ended up with real short links that put it in the stock position. So far that works good.
I've only used them for a couple hundred miles but they seem to work real good. I've been trying different settings and 7-8 seems to be perfect for the street. I wouldn't want it to ride any harder. I don't plan on tracking the car so I doubt I'll ever adjust them again. I bought mine from Steve Weiner of Rennsport Systems and he spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me. You may be able to get them cheaper somewhere else, but the support Steve offers is priceless. |

Not trying to hijack this thread, but since it's on suspensions... I am looking for a set of rear H&R shocks & springs (monoball mount optional) for a September 1991 buid 1991 964C2 Targa. I have a set of H&R struts/springs for the front end (VA p# which makes them turbo struts?) and would like to use them. I also have a 965 M030 Porsche suspension that I could put in, but the H&R struts are about an inch or so shorter than the Porsche struts and I want the lowered look. TIA.

unless you spend all day on the track and know exactly what you are doing I think its more likely their are 9 settings of 'wrong' for 99% of users.
Better getting a known fixed rate kit with a recomendation. If however you really know your stuff, the PSS9 is A1 |
