Value estimation - 99
What would be a fair price for this 99 C2?
Here's what I got from the dealer: ’99 Black coupe… race ready (5 point harness, aero kit, adjustable rear wing)… 34000 miles, above average. Would this car likely have been tracked? Thanks in advance for any info! Pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I would think low 30' would be a great price...mid 30's would be a good price, upper 30's would be high, but if it is exactly what you are looking for, no reason not to pay for it. You may not see another one optioned like this for months. Assuming it passes the PPI.

That's exactly what I thought about the harness, unless maybe there was a crowd of 996 guys who just liked to look cool...
![]() It's not necessarily exactly what I'm looking for, so it's not a big deal to let it go. My dad and I are looking at Porsches we can buy in the US, drive for a season, then sell here in Canada at no loss, or even a small profit. Thanks for the input! Chris

The 99 996 C2 is a good year to find a deal. This car has the GT3 Mk I body kit, which is nice. It's not "race ready" although it does look racey. I'm surprised the dealer left the harness and harness bar in the car as tracked cars generally have a smaller group of potential buyers.

Looks like a pretty clean car either way (tacked or not). You have the Aero I kit, white gauges, Turbo twist, looks like sport tips, later 01 rear tail lights and leather doors.....
I would say that a deal in the low 30's would be just great! -Eli |

Thanks guys! Is it any easier or harder to sell a C2 with the aero kit, harness, etc? I know when I spoke to one of the local Porsche dealerships the guy said GT2s and 3s sell immediately, but this car is sort of a "poseur" GT2

The aero kit probably makes the car more attractive to potential buyers. The harness bar definitely hurts its resale as it implies that the car was driven on the track.

Many people equate a car that's been tracked to a car that's been thrashed.
Personally, I would expect that a person driving their car on the track: 1) Takes decent care of the mechanicals - gotta pass tech inspections for PCA DE, for instance 2) Actually DROVE the car (many problems arise from ignored/unused performance cars) 3) Invested in the safety/performance mods The biggest downside (if the car checks out with a PPI) is that you may have some rash to contend with (stone chips in paint or glass, rash on rims, etc.) A good upside is that if you get a positive PPI the car is ready to take to your local DE!

Dustin,
I agree with you all the way, though the PCA tech inspections aren't really that strict. But I completely agree with the idea that someone who tracks the car would take better care of it than someone who may or may not have thrashed it around the street, with no instruction on how to handle such a car properly. The problem is a potential buyer who has no idea of what going through track prep and training is like may not see it that way.

Christien,
I'm not sure how standardized the PCA tech inspections are - our 2 local regions (Hurricane and Carolinas) are fairly thorough they check for tire condition, fluid leaks, etc. in addition to the standard safety equipment checks. I know a few guys that got "fix it first" notifications before they were cleared to get on the track... I guess there is a bit of subjectivity involved. No worries - we're on the same page. At any rate, if a person can become comfortable with the fact that a car has been to the track it may give them a buyer advantage as they may get a solid car that other buyers would pass up.
