advise on buying 92-C2

Hi everyone .
just read kiwi,s thread.

i,m looking at a 1992 C2 with 65000miles.
does the same apply as what was written to kiwi or are the 92 models years a little better or worse?

have all the bugs been worked out by then or are there still lots of issues to look out for and to be aware of ?

Thanks in advance to everyone who shares info.

Yes, the '92 up did have most if not all the bugs worked out.

Print out the PPI forms either here or on Rennlist Tech. Use these as a guide, but definitely lay out th $350 or so for a PPI at a shop you feel you can trust.

I made the expensive mistake of thinking I knew enough about Porsches from reading to avoid buying a money pit with my first Porsche. Boy was I wrong!

I paid for several PPI's before getting my current 964, but w/o them I might have made a bad (financially) decision.

thanks Bill
havn,t seen car in person yet.
do the 92 still have the cover underneath engine that should be removed?
dist belt issue?
exhaust valve issue?
have had a few earlier 911,s and worked on them all but never a 964 or 3.6.
are they worker friendly?
anything about the 92 year that stands out good or bad?

All 964/993 came w/ the tray. There is some controversy but IMO they should be removed.

dist belt issue?
The dist. belt is a potential source of trouble for all of them. The late '93 up had a vent kit which should be retrofitted to earlier models to ease the issue. The belt is a $10 item that is a RPIA to change, they will all need to be changed at some point.

exhaust valve issue?
never heard of a specific valve issue, guides, yes, they do tend to wear and will all need replacement at some point. I would evaluate and price the car accordingly. Both of mine have had guides replaced at <90k mi.

each model has it's ideosycrocies, which you will want to learn. The lack of a cheap OBD1 reader is the worst issue I can think of.

As always newer is generally better than older, but the PO's care or attention to proper maintanance and usage patterns are probably far more important.

I would rather have an older well cared for car than a newer neglected one.
