pic of 993 C4 pics and question

Ok ok you guys are right about that salvage title 964. It is a very nice car and asking too much so I ran from it.

Now I am thinking about a 993. A close family friend convinced me to look at this 993 C4 that a customer of his has for sale. He's the head wrench at a local Porsche dealership. Here's the catch....good leakdown # but it has 95+k miles on it. The front diff or drive mechanism that drives the front wheel is not good. Porsche replace it once already, and it is still covered. This guy is tired of fixing it. Is this a common problem? I don't hear too much about it. Oh, it has a factory aero kit. What's that, a turbo wing and front valence?

Is this car that rare, a C4? Anyone have pic of this thing or areo kit. how wide is the arse compare to the regular 993? Similar to 930s compare to the regular SCs?

My mouth is watering like hell thinking about it. I am worry about the smog issue with the OBD11. Oh, it is a 98. Anything else I should look for? Thanks.

Jeff

I have heard of this happening during dyno runs

there were severla different aero kits, turbo was one. pictures would be very helpful

There were 2 different n/a coupes, n/b and w/b. A C4 is AWD n/b, A C4S is AWD w/b. The front fenders are the same on both models the w/b rear fenders are 60mm wider tha n/b(30mm/side).

OBD2 CEL issues seem to be the #1 issue w/ these cars.

Thanks Bill. It is a C4S. I'll try to get a look at this this hopefully next week. How often do you see the front diff. go south? I think there might be too much power going to the front all the time. Is it computer controlled? OK, I have to ask, you must know the answer to this since you have a 993, How do you get more poper out of these things with bolt ons? I know the exhaust is good from the factory. Chip? I have to deal with the smog Nazi in CA. I don't think I can get near the power of my 930 without a whole lot of money. I have 360 to the wheel. Is 250ish out of the question in the 993?

just on dynos and maybe some hopped up tt's, I really haven't paid much attention to the AWD versions

No, there is a viscous clutch mechanism at the nose of the transmission.

Power?
3 major things to make these cars more enjoyable(not necessarily daily driver)

engine 3.8-4.0
trans regear
suspension

I would do the suspension first, PSS9, JIC, H&R, HD Bilstein w/ M030 springs are all good choices

the trans would be next

and the engine last

Interestingly that is cheapest to most expensive,

I have done all 3, if I had to choose 2 it would be suspension and trans.

98 C4S is a very desirable car - last of the air cool, wide body, turbo brakes.

If you have an insatiable need for excess power, buy a TT. There are more and more for sale as guys switch to GT2's and GT3's. However, the car has plenty of power for anything you might want to do with it. The very best way to add power - add lightness. Lots of ways to take weight off these cars.

Post a Pic!

I would stay away from the 4 wheel drive. As you can see already, it is just one more thing to worry about. I have autocrossed a C4S and it was very disappointing.

The aero kit will make it look like a Turbo. Not sure if you are into that. I certainly prefer a wolf in sheep's clothing, not the opposite.

A good way to make the cars go faster is a chip. Also, unless you need the back seat, there is some weight to be lost if you go to an RS style interior (backseat delete, no door pockets etc.)
