It is an increased HP kit for the engine. The contents of the kit are not defined. I know based on earlier kits, they definately had different camshafts. I would not rule out new pistons, but there isn't a listing of what is changed in the dealer order guides.
FWIW, it is a $16000 option. AFJ

May'be that would explain why the car with the X51 option seemed to have a noisey valve train also?

Go to rennlist.com My buddy has a 2003 996 x50 he said it is upgraded turbo and was told tranny until it broke and found out it was the same tranny as a stock 996 also the muffler has baffle removed. Thats about it no head work or different cams. Has carbon package cost the same as the x-50 option 15k. In 2005 the turbo s is the X-50 they made the car with all the pre x-50 option.

Umm... a 996 TT X50 is a 996 TT with a GT2 motor.
Yes, it has the same transmission as a regular 996 TT So does the GT-2 AFJ
