Question 964 cabriotop adjustment

Hi all, recently I bought a 1991 964 cabrio. When closing the top the front side doesn't fall in the upper part of the front windowpart. Also the top seems to be a bit low on both of the sides. It isn't much of a problem but Iwondered: how can I adjust the mechanism to fit better. Anyone knows the trick??

Try loosening the BIG MAIN gearbox bolts (one each side under bungs in rear side panels) one turn each, maybe 2 or 3 turns if needed. Try it starting with one turn each ONLY to start with and SLOWLY operate the roof. If the roof is down and the car is jacked up or similar it can distort the roof frame a little causing your problem. Loosening it off a bit than retightening again may fix the problem.
Note: NEVER OPERATE ROOF IF CAR IS JACKED UP OR AT A ANGLE AS IT DOESN'T LIKE IT AND CAN DO SOME DAMAGE WHICH COULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. Good Luck.

DO NOT undo those big bolts!

Those mount the arms of the cab top to the transmission. If they get out of synchronization, you will twist and bind teh top.

The adjustment procedure for the cab top is pretty extensive., and does not, in any way, entail loosening those bolts.

"If they get out of synchronization, you will twist and bind teh top."

Yes IF. You don't let it go out of synchronisation to start with. Thats why you be CAREFUL and do everything SLOWLY.

BE CAREFUL!
BE CAREFUL!
BE CAREFUL!

SSSSSLLLLLLOOOOOWWWWLLLYYY operate the roof.

For Sybren to take on the task of trying to fix his Porsche roof himself (as they are a nightmare) than I am guessing he knows what he is doing anyway. So he will be careful doing it. It's best to take it to a Porsche dealer if you are not confident in what you are doing. But ofcourse there will be a fee but it may be worth it to have a correctly operating roof?
