OBDI

Would anyone recommend purchasing Durametric product for a 1995 993?

You've obviously read the specifications at Durametric and I'd like to know your thoughts.
Is this the correct product an enthusiast should be looking at?
Is it giving good value for money?

I use an OBDII reader (AutoEnginuity). I'm aware that ODBI cars such as yours are more challenging. If I was aware of this one before I picked up mine, I would have given it a try because it claims to reset ABS and Airbag indicators which mine does not.

However, if I'm reading it right, it does not seem to display live engine values for the 993, which is valuable for tracing engine problems.

It all depends what you want out of a reader. If you just want to know the basic codes, readiness indicators and reset the CEL light, a basic reader unit would do you fine. If you want to decode more detailed information, this one looks like a winner. If you want live engine values, then you will have to look elsewhere. There's a thread on Rennlist for a very low-cost OBDI reader BTW.

I would only use this one or twice....that being said...I don't mind going in one what with several people....and we can ship it around.

It looks limited to 3 vehicles (I guess it interogates the ECN S/N or something). So not appropriate to pass around...

Sometime ago there was a thread about buying a Bosch hammer and sharing it. The logistics, responsibility killed the idea if I recall...

I have used the Durametric code reader on my 93 993 'round' round type socket. I used it to read and clear A/C and airbag codes. It was easy to use but basic for reading and clearing codes.
