If you want to go fast - with 270 hp in a 993 you'll be neck and neck with Dodge Charger R/Ts, and you'll get smoked by Lancer EVOs. I'm sure both are fun to drive, but with modern cars being so quick, you need to get a 993 if you are interested in keeping up with the other fast cars.

A 964 is pretty quick and with the money saved over a 993 you can bump up the HP easily and the 5 speed is geared better than the US 6 speed IMO. My C2 is pretty quick and it is not much behind my Cayenne Turbo which can dust a Lancer EVO. or Dodge Charger R/T. In fact it is about the same as my GTS slightly slower off the line and my GTS pulled from a 300 Hemi 7.2l going from 60-130. These aren't drag cars and there is always a faster car. The 993 is not that much faster than a 964 C2, it is more modern in design and is a great base platform but both are great and can give you lots of driving smiles. Who cares about Lancer EVO's when your driving a 911.;) BTW Nice choice, looks like you should have many happy smiles with that one. Enjoy it in good health. |
cobalt..+1 not trying to be biased towards the car that i own either, but all things being equal, i don't imagine the difference in 'acceleration' between a stock 964 and stock 993 is noticeably different. that's not to say that the actual 'numbers' might not average out to differ by a couple tenths, but when they're that close, driver technique could make the 964 faster in some runs. the stock 993 isn't gonna just 'walk away' from a stock 964..no way.

Right, Porsche never makes cars that are faster than the previous model. ;) And sure, once you start modifying, it all goes out the window.
While I enjoy my car being fast, Porsche ownership is not about being able to spank some punk kid at a stop light. If any place, it would be on a road course. And there you generally have no trouble keeping up with any of today's budget sports cars - you can be in anything from a 914, SC etc. ;) George |
I wouldn't trade this 993 for the world, regardless of performance against others. I have a feeling I'd feel the same way if I were driving a 964. They each have unique character. Just driving on a road trip with the family today was a great experience - right down to figuring out how to arrange our gear so it all fit.
But it still is fun to spank punk kids at stop lights... 8^) |
