993 engine from factory?

Hi all, I've noticed that some folks have been able to purchase brand new or refurbished Boxster and 996 engines from the factory for a reasonable sum. Anyone know if the factory still sells 993 engines and if so, how much?

Yes, they do. If I recall correctly, they are ca. 28K from Sunset.

The engine w/o intake, exhaust, tin, shrouds, FI, distributors, wires, alternator etc.

It would look something like this

So, in the flat six world a short block is with heads?

In the V8 world the short block is just the block with the rotating assembly, including crank, pistons and cam. The long block would be what Bill pictured above.
