Which C2 S is more desirable
Ok - so what are the collective thoughts on desirability & collectibility of the 1997 993 Carrera 2 S?
I'm looking at 2 C2 S's - one is midnight blue with dove grey int & has 6 speed manual trans. The other is the special order Vesuvius colour with the unique Vesuvius int appointments but is Tiptronic. Both are identical condition, odo reading similar, etc. So it's manual trans versus Vesuvius special options. Which do you think will be more collectible over time? ![]()

This one is almost a split decision.
The manuals are always more desirable than the tiptronics IME. A special wishes color package really doesn't add much in value IMO - especially if it is a "love it or hate it" color. Another thing to consider will be the cost of paint and repairs in the future - It can be difficult to get a special wishes color to match.

AFJuvat - I agree with you on all counts - I'm in the "love it" category so that plays a part - but the tip is the achilles heel!
Yes, the colour match - I have seen the mix formula & it is seriously scary, it didn't know that you could mix that many colours & still get a colour!!! I hadn't thought about the fact that the colour could polarise subsequent buyers more than most other colours - hmmm. In Europe this is NOT a rare colour - in fact MORE 993 C2Ss (about 20%) were painted this colour than any other colour! Not so in the right hand drive world I live in (NZ). Ilko - yes, it's hard to be die-hard sports car fan & not prefer a manual tranny. Midnight blue is looking good! Thanks for the responses guys.

Now in 993 land ...

If you look at holding the value as part of your decision, you have to buy the car that appeals to the broadest audience. And you know the answer to which car will do that.

Tips are always less desirable than manuals to the greater buying market.
There are people who prefer Tips, but they are few. In the end, buy what you like. Cars are not investments, but you want to lose as little as possible, I know. Bottom line is the manual trans will have the higher resale value.

On cars as old as the 993 is now you will pay less for a TIP but when you sell you will probably get less but when you factor in the extra cost up front for a manual it pretty much becomes a wash.
