993 Glovebox kicked open

My six year old daughter kicked the glovebox on a drive over the weekend. It won't close and a small U shaped metal item seems to of pulled loose from the frame. There's a couple of screws. If I loosen these can the U shaped latch be inserted and tightened up?

Suggestions or page in the manual to refer to?

Thanks.

Leo

Just loosen the two screws holding the metal plate where the U-shaped catch goes in, insert the u-shaped catch in the holes on the plate, then tighten the screws.
Test the glovebox if it locks, if not, loosen the screw once again and adjust the u-shaped catch by pulling it out a little, tighten the screws and test.
Repeat adjusting if necessary until the glovebox stays locked.. Good luck.

I had to glue the U shaped latch in mine. The screws didn’t seem to hold it tight enough or far enough in. It was simple: loosen the screws, pull the U shaped latch out a bit, put some glue on it, push it back in and tighten the screws. As the screws didn’t seem to hold it tight enough, I had to hold the latch in until the glue set enough to take over. I think I used some 30 second epoxy. This was years ago, and I haven’t had a problem since. On the other hand, I don’t have a six year old daughter kicking it, either!

Ground the six year old for two weeks, then make her help you fix it per instructions above.

6 year old kicked it open eh..?

I had a girl friend who once damaged the dash in my corvette with a heel on her shoe... that was 14 years ago but I forgave her pretty quickly.

Mixed up the 2-part JB weld stuff from the auto store and have not had a problem since.

There's a guy parting out a 993 on eBay right now...... you might try him if you need a part?

Thanks everybody, I've fixed it, without JBweld for the time being.

Used a short phillips and a channel lock to really tighten the two screws. Hopefully it works well. If not, the glue is next.

PS My daughter apologized.....
