Newish owner with a couple 964 questions

Hi all,

I've had the C2 for a couple months now.
So far it has been a pleasure to own....
Got around to performing my first oil change and a few other minor maintenance things, but I have a couple questions hopefully that someone can help me with:

The Cruise Control doesn't work, is there a simple fix?

I replaced the burnt out fuse for the engine bay heater fan, but the fan seems to be in bad shape as it makes a lot of noise when it is running. I was getting plenty of heat before, so I can definitly just go back to pulling the fuse and doing without the fan.

The rear defrost does not work. Any idea why? Fuse is good.

Thanks!

Dan

Newbie Questions

Dan,
Mine's a turbo so I don't have the engine compartment fan and I don't have the cruise control.
But, I can help on the rear window defrost. Porsche used thin copper wires on the inside of the glass and they break very easily when you wipe down the inside glass surface. GM sells a repair kit that uses copper paint to rejoin the broken wires, that is if; you can find the breaks.

About half of mine are broken, I can see the ones that work on a cold morning. I use a crayon to mark the dead ones. Then very carefully, I make resistance checks with an ohmmeter using the rounded end of a paper clip on the wire surface. Sometimes you can see the break.

Good Luck,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the idea...I don't seem to get any defrost action from the wires in the window, which made me think it was something more than breaks in the wires. I will have to take a closer look. Maybe there is a wiring issue elsewhere.

Regards,

Dan

P.S. i did some searching on older threads about the Cruise Control, seems like a lot of times it is a clutch electrical connection issue under the pedal. Either pulling up on the pedal helps or a connection is not being made.

The relay for the rear defroster is in the engine relay box if I remember correctly..
Check/clean the connections.

Simple +:

Check fuse
Check relay

Simple - :

Check clutch switch
Check steering column multi function switch

You can perform these Tests by probing the harness connector from the speed control module

Expensive: replace (or repair) the Speed Control Module (not a common failure in the 964)

Congratulations on your new ride!
