Question New 993 owner,question.

Hello everyone,nice to be here!

I recently bought a crashed 993 4s,it had a front collision and it's being repaired now.

My first question would be:

Can the airbag control unit (under the dash) be reused? Both airbags went off and I bought new ones but do I need to buy a new control unit or can I somehow reset this one?

Thank you very much,

Luka

One would imagine that with proper factory equipment (Bosch Hammer) one might be able to delete the airbag deployment codes and reset the ECU. But I don't know the real answer.

Welcome to the board!
Sorry I don't know either. What does your shop say?

Welcome!

I'm not sure of an exact answer for 993's. Most airbag control modules are use once or re-use after diagnostics. I seem to remember that they can be reused after you replace the airbag and run a diagnostic test using the Bosch PTS ("Hammer") tool. You can't test without the Hammer. You might try PM'ing user "Rattlesnak" as he's rebuilt a badly damaged 993 and will know for sure.

I don't think it's possible to crash 3 times and survive

But it's good knowing it's a good second hand buy for the unit.

Luka,

PM Rattlesnak to get his ideas on re-building crashed 993s. The one he re-did was not that badly crashed but did have some issues to correct. Also, do a search on his name and project. You'll see some good ideas.

Best of luck and welcome aboard!!!

Thanks!

Basicly I', starting from a empty shell, only rear part of wiring is staying on,front end is currently removed for painting.

And I'm making an 2 S from it,it's more fun and still looks great with wide body

Luka,

Any chance you know of another damaged 993 or even 964 out there? Even if the motor and trans is not there I might be interested.

Good luck with your car... I would love to see some pics
