Hiccup during manual mode acceleration

Hello all,

I had the pleasure of becoming a 1997 993 cabriolet owner last November. It was a great deal with only 43K miles and pampered by the previous owner. Here's my issue:

During manual mode acceleration in second gear, there is a slight hesitation, that always occurs right around the same RPM, where it seems like the car wants to shift into third (which is shouldn't, being in manual/tiptronic mode). It then continues to accelerate in second gear until I get to about 3500 rpm where I shift into third. The hesitation is very short, and sounds as if I have taken my gas off the pedal for a nanosecond and then accelerate again.

It doesn't do this in the automatic mode, although when it has the slight hiccup in the manual mode, it seems to be around the rpm where it would shift into third in the automatic mode.

Anyone experience this phenomenon?

KMS
