993 RUF CTR2 Trans
I just picked up a rare 1997 993 RUF CTR2 Trans with 24k miles on it. Aside from the gearing and steel synchros what are the other changes RUF made?
Is the box simply a G50/31 or 32? Any help or info is appreciated. Joe |

Wow. Sounds great. I don't know any of the particulars, hopefully Bill V will chime in. Does it have external cooling?

No external cooling, I do not have possession yet, but have spoken with the seller in detail and seen pictures. It is a genuine RUF trans from a CTR2. I'm having trouble finding any info on these. I will try to contact RUF directly when it comes in and I have numbers to verify.
Thanks Joe |

Now in 993 land ...

I'll make it easy for you. I'll do an exchange for a well used stock US transmission.

Forgive me for impertinence, but why would you buy something you know so little about? I hope it's no more expensive than a stock transmission ...

turbos and n/a engines generally have very different gearing needs.

Well, assuming the info I googled is right, those are some TALL top gears:
gear ratios 3.15:1, 1.79:1, 1.27:1, 0.97:1, 0.76:1, 0.60:1 final drive 3.44:1 Of course, for it to hit a top speed of over 200 MPH, they'd have to be. (3 different sites claimed 3 different top speeds for the CTR2, but they were all above 210, and the average of the 3 was about 215 or so.)

The CTR2 had a G64/51 gearbox. The CTR2 Sport had the gearbox with the gearing listed by olstyn. However, there were many customized ones made at the request of the owners, so there is no one answer.

Well, that at least explains the many different top speeds I saw listed. I just kinda figured that people didn't know what they were talking about and/or didn't have accurate numbers when I did that search.

The other thing would be that different top speeds often get published by different people. Ruf may have listed one speed and then P&911 World does a story and their guy drives it on the Audobahn and hits a little higher or a little lower because of road conditions and temps that particular day. Then Excellence gets their hands on one and since they can't test it on an open road, their top speed test occurs closed course at Daytona, and they reach yet another different number. Then add to the mix the digital game of telephone the internet has become and a search would potentially reveal a number of different people claiming different top speeds for the exact same test car and they would all be right...
