PS rack, which is inlet and outlet?

Took a close look at pet and it appears inlet (high press side) is bottom and outlet (low press side) is top. Makes sense from air removal standpoint, however, can someone confirm?

View is looking at rack from front toward back of car and blue things are dust covers over inlet and outlet.

The Pet should “should” show the lines connected correctly (however I can understand when some drawings are vague).

The high side pressure to the rack would be (working backwards): line 14 to 12 to 10 to the pump.
The return side from the rack would be: 11 to 13 to 15 to the PS tank. line 11 should have a flexible piece of rubber hose adjacent to the banjo fitting at the rack; because the return is low pressure, and line 14 would be metal tubing up to its banjo fitting at the rack because it is high pressure.

Therefore the port on the rack closest to the rack gear is the inlet or high side from the PS Pump, and the port closest to the pinion input shaft will be the outlet or return back to the PS Tank.

You’ll know rather quickly if you have the lines incorrectly connected at the rack; when you start the car and try to turn the steering wheel, it will want to “snap” toward the opposite direction you are turning it.

And, you use Dexron type II or III (non synthetics, up to March of 1996 and Pentosin CHF 11 S (green) from March 1996 onward for Coupe Vin’s 99 9 TS 32 3082, or Cab Vin’s 99 3 TS 34 1781 and Targa Vin’s 99 8 TS 38 5439. The 1996 Turbo uses Pentosin. There is a note in the TSB 9606 on this subject that suggests that you can add Pentosin to a Dexron system however we don’t suggest it. And, do not add any thing to the fluid system that says it will "reseal, rejuvinate, refresh, fix, etc. " a leaking system as they could swell the elastomer components.

kuelh -- I need a little clarification. in the pic above, which is the high pressuer side (supply line from the pump), is it the lower fitting that points to the right in the pic or the upper one that points somewhat to the left???

thanks! Joe

For the moment we'll say its the one on the right at 3:00 o'clock.
OR
The port closest to the rack gear. The "rack" gear is the what your tie rod assemblies connect to.
