993 Tiptronic trip computer problem

Hi all,

Having an intermitent problem with the trip/central computer in the Tach.

It just goes blank after it rains...after a day or so of no rain it comes back to life.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Is the harness exposed to moisture via the trunk?

Some other helpful info., NO the car hasn't been jump started.

The gauge was recently sent to North Hollywood to have the housing replaced as it had the typical failure of the plastic cracking where the bezel/glass is crimped onto the front of it. N.H. checked the electricals when it was apart and gave a clean bill of health.

Looking for thoughts before I pull it back out and try cleaning the contacts.

Thanks, Cooper

Hi Cooper. Not heard of this, try a search under "trunk leak". It's certainly easy enough to pull the tach and check the connections. Could be you might find some build-up on the terminals (check ground first).

Thanks Don

I'll try cleaning the ground and contacts first...it is one of those weird electrical gremlins I guess.

Personally I don't think it is a trunk leak...either a bad connection or some internal problem with the gauge.

Thanks for the reply...I'll follow up once it is fixed.

Cheers, Cooper

Try pulling the tach apart and clean the contacts for the bulb- and replace the bulb. Maybe the contacts lose continuity when the air around them moistens

Finally got around to pulling the tach back out...the problem was an intermitent bulb.

Thanks for the help, Cooper
