Gear Shifting issues with my 993 C2

Hi,

I sometimes have difficulty shifting into the even gears, especially 2nd. It shifts much easier when going into 1-3-5 direction. There is a definite stiffness into going to the 2-4-6 direction. I replaced both pivot shift bushings which has improved it a bit but not by much. The stiffness is also greater after driving for a while. I know the clutch is not sticking as the revs drop down when I apply the clutch.

thanks,

Michel

Hmm. Someone with more knowledge will need to chime in.

How old is the tranny fluid? That's a cheap way out. 107K on the original clutch is amazing.

Have you checked the linkage under the car?

The trans fluid was replaced last summer. I had the two plastic shift pivot bushings replaced a few months ago because at a PCA DE I had a very difficult time shifting into 2nd. One of the bushings was very worn. The problem is now back apparently. The shifter seems to be centered in the center console too.

I have heard of clutches lasting as much as 140K. I know my car has many highway miles. That may have something to do with it.

Wonder if one of those RS shift rods would make a difference?

Thanks,

Michel

Have your rebuilt the entire shifter? Unscheduled transmission rebuilds not cool. Do you have a tech you trust?

Good luck.

Regards,

Finally found the problem. Really dumb too. I had installed an aftermarket shift knob with leather boot. Turns out the leather boot part was too tight, not installed properly I suppose, offering resistance and not allowing the full engagement of some gears.

Glad I found the fix though.
