Difficult gear selection
Hi
I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar and could advise. I have a 1990 964 which has covered 74k the last 2k of which has been on a new clutch following an engine re build. My issue is that from time to time (always when warm) selection of first gear becomes difficult and sometimes almost impossible. I don't experience any other issues and the the gearbox is otherwise smooth and precise. I wonder if it might be something to do with the gearbox oil? Not sure if it's ever been changed. Thanks |

I had a problem similar to yours. Hard going into 1st gear. I changed to Redline gear oil, and this took care of most the problem. Others have reported using Swepco with similar results.

Thanks Newsboy
I've read into the subject a little more over the weekend and others also recommend a gearbox oil change. Apparently the choice of oil is important so I'll look into that a little more and see what is the popular choice here in the UK. Thanks again. |
