Does anyone know the trick for removing the dust boot on Brembo Big Reds?

I use one or two small straight blade screwdrivers to "pry" the boot up. There is a metgal band inside the rubber boot, just be careful not to mar the outer surface.

So there is no clip to remove, you just have to work it around the piston?

Thanks

No, no clip. The outer band, the side at the caliper has a metal ring in there that holds it's shape and pressure fits it into the bore, and in the center, around the piston, the seal just streches a little and fits into the channel at the top of the piston.

I guess that based on the last post, I am looking for the proper way to remove the press fit metal ring. Does the "two screwdriver" method used in prying the metal band up? If so, sorry, I thought that was used for working the boot around a piston that is being inserted.

I have to replace a dust boot that is torn.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that. I actually got my calipers apart, and put them together, so don't know the best way to pull the seals. I'm sure someone who has done one will chime in.

there are 2 seals an inner pressure seal and an outer dust seal

here's a piston

here's a dust seal

here's the seal installed, work it in by hand or watha plastic ladle

there was a more complicated older design that used a ring, it looked like this

Bill,

Seeing the picture of the seal by itself made things very clear, thank you.

One other question if I may. The old seal was firmly in place, when I press the new one in it is quite easy to pull out. I made sure the seal and seating surface were clean. Should this be expected?

Thanks again,
Thom
