![]() I'm in the same situation with my car. I found the radio security code card in the owner's manual folder but not the one for the immobilzer. Porsche North America must have the codes on file but is a matter of contacting the right people. I read somewhere that the code can be retrieved at the dealer through the diagnostic port.

As I am looking forward to purchasing a 993 in the near future, I check this forum frequently to see what type of isues come up. This is an interesting dilemma.
Wouldn't the previous owner have this information? Couldn't you just contact them and get it?

Thank you Harlan and Wayne
I'am a french canadian and I bought my car in CT from a pre-owned Porsche automobiles dealer, I contact a canadian dealer and unfortunately, because it's a US Porsche, the car is not in the system, then I contact Porsche of North America and they told me to contact a US dealer and I don't have an answer yet, so that's why I post my question in the forum. To answer Wayne, the CT dealer tell me that the prevouis owner move from CT to VT and he don't have the data about the him. Thank you Richard |

I have access to a Porsche System Tester and I haven't found a way to retrieve the code.

Good News ---- I bought a 1996 993 in mid January. I did not get the immobilzer code either. I called the local Porsche dealer here in Denver. I asked him to run my VIN through the Porsche computer system for any open recalls, as well as the immobilizer 4 digit code. I got a call back about 30 minutes later; I have 1 open recall for a filter that was already ID'd by CARFAX, and he gave me the 4 digit codes for the "ignition lock/alarm system" and the " immobilizer" code. I was only expecting to get a 4 digit code for the immobilizer, so now I need to do more reading to find out about the ignition lock/alarm system code (I don't remember seeing that in my owners manual)

The alarm and imobilizer 4 digit code, I believe are one in the same. The Becker radio, has a separate code in itself and would have been printed on a card attached to the front cover of the radio owner's manual.

Harlan, When I called the dealer I was only expecting to get a 4 digit code for the immobilizer.
What he gave me was two different 4-digit codes for the "ignition lock/alarm system" and the " immobilizer". If another 993 owner calls a Porsche dealer maybe they will only get a single four digit code for the immobilizer, maybe they will get two different codes like me? I don't want to hijack the thread so I won't go into any other specifics about my car. My take away from this is: New 993 owners should look for their immobilzer code, if necessary call the dealer to obtain the code, then take the immobilizer code they get and try the emergency start procedure given in the owners manual. Is there any other way than going through porsche north america in order to get the immobilizer code. The reason I am asking is that the immobilizer that was installed in my 993 when I bought it is not the original unit and I do not have the code for it. (so I was told at the dealer when they tried to program a second key)
For some strange reason, I manage to start the car with the key doing the lock/alarm system code that came on the key card |

Do a search over on the 993 boards at Rennlist. There are several threads on this. Apparently the numbers are supposed to be on the immobilizer unit under the left seat. Don't know for sure if it's true for all or if the immobilizer has been replaced. Also don't know how common it is to have the immobilizer replaced. I will look when I pick up my new to me 993 next week.
