my clutch pedal mounting bracket has cracked

my 965 turbo im assuming has the exact same pedal mount set up as the 964 i was having difficulty engaging 1st gear, very notchy, anyway had a look around the pedal area and where the clutch pedal hydraulic piston mounts the bracket has a clean crack right across.
i presume this is the cause of my 1st gear not engaging properly, is this a common fault
the piston not having a solid surface to mount to due to the crack seems to bend to the right very slightly as the pedal is pressed.
can i remove this bracket without disconnecting the hydraulic cutch piston

Can be done. Four 13mm nuts hold the assembly down, brake rod, switch wires, throttle rod, two cylinder nuts, cylinder rod attachment and you can pop it up off the four floor studs and slide it out past the cylinder.
Had the same crack on my previous '90 C2.

Yes, it was difficult to shift as the clutch was not being released due to the pedal assembly flexing and preventing a full throw of the cylinder.
Had a friend weld it, worked fine.

Yes....as noted....Can be done.
Don't disconnect the hydraulic line to the cylinder.

ive managed to remove the pedals with the brackets, how are the pedals removed from the bracket
the clutch pedal is welded on one side to a rod which goes right across the bracket, i can get a new bracket rather than weld this one as its in a bad way
