I'm so utterly disappointed

I'm getting ready to replace another window switch. This will be the 7th switch replacement in the 993. BTW, I've never had to replace a single switch in my 911SC that has easily double the miles and 15 years older.

Why is the build quality so poor in these "later" cars?

Could the problem be somewhere else? Like getting too much electricity which causes the switch to fail? Have you checked? These switches are really not that unreliable.

I don't think its the amperage carrying capacity. The contacts are fine.
The problem is the plastic rocker hinge pins breaking easily due to inferior material or design flaw.
It's my 3rd replacement already. I tried both the dealer replacement and the cheap pelican. They both break. I just bought 5 from our host and keep it in the glove compartment. The switch can be repaired by replacing the broken pins with a metal wire. Just limit opening the windows only when necessary.

Other than that, I really like the car.

bazar01 is 100% on this issue. Inferior plastic in the mechanism.

I'm getting close to swapping out the doors with the 911 roll-up window version. At $71.00 per switch this is getting crazy. The one that is failing has been in the door for a year.

Jim

I've read on Rennlist a DIY repair involving replacing the plastic pin with a metal pin.

Hope this helps

I bought a replacement switch on ebay $12 for my 964. Works fine. FYI.

+1 Rennlist DIY....... takes 15 minutes and lasts and lasts!
I use 4p nail heads, a little heat and a drop of superglue to set them in place of the plastic pins.
