964 VS 993 Preformance
What do you think about the stock Preformance of a 1992 964 VS 1996+ 993??
Does anyone know the 0-60? 1/4 mile? braking? Im just trying to get a rough idea of how these cars preform next to each other. Any links or information will be appreciated. |

Now in 993 land ...

The gearing of the 964 is even worse than that of the 993 IMHO.
Performance numbers can be found on Wikipedia. George |

I had a race with a 964 c4 on a german motorway,he was a friend.
My 993 c2 pre vario ram,has been lightened, but has a Rs rear spoiler (lots of down force) and makes very healthy bhp. My friends 964 has had a sports exhaust and mild remap. Mid range was virtually the same (he was pulling on me a bit) Top end he easily beat me ![]() |

The differences are nothing more than reaction time. .1 here or .3 there. Exchanging the stock cat on a 964 with a 100 cell cat or cat delete will even out the differences without any other mods. Paul Frere has these numbers listed: 89 964C2 at 0-62.5mph 5.5 seconds, 0-99.5 at 12.9s, 0-124mph at 21.3s top speed at 164mph 95 993C2 listed at 0-62.5 at 5.4s, 0-99.5 at 12.6, 0-124 at 21.3 and top speed at 167.5. IMO hardly worth mentioning the differences. Both cars are similar all around with advantages going to the newer model. Although either can be improved upon and that is where these cars shine. My 964 has minor work (100cell cat) and a strong motor. Dynoed at 247.3 to the wheels with LWF. I am seeing closer to 5s 0-60 time and 1/4 in the low 13's using a Gtech meter. Haven't had a 933 on the track other than a turbo give me a hard time.

stock vs stock the 993 will win in a comparable trim.
Anyways, The 964 motor and the 993 motor are very similar the main differences being the 993 has hydrolic lifters/hotwire MAF/Exhaust. The 964 motor with exhaust and a hotwire maf/tune seem to make every bit as much power as a 993 motor with similar modifications. The 964 is more aerodynamic then the 993 but its braking and suspension are not as nice. |

The numbers are so close its going to be more about driver skill than mechanical performance

Bill,
Thanks for supplying the 964/993 road test data - it is really useful. I wonder if it might become a sticky ? |
