Removing 964 front hubs?

Does anyone know how to remove the front hubs so I can replace the bearings? I'm guessing it takes a slide hammer on the hub, but I've only done the earlier cars. Also, after I have removed the ball joint from the wheel carrier, how do I get the new one back in?

I replaced the front wheel bearing in my 91 C4 a couple of years ago. Once the nut is off, of course, I used a slide hammer around the hub to pull it out of the bearing. Since I didn't have an actual slide hammer, I created one out of some chain and a 10 lbs sledge hammer. I wrapped the chain around the hub and just gently swung the sledge against the chain and it pulled right out. The hardest part, since the car was a C4, was getting the axle out. The rest of it was easy. A wheel bearing tool helped a lot also.

For me getting the nut off was the trick (92 C2). VERY tight. I tried a 1" breaker bar and length of pipe but ended up borrowing a torque multiplier to get the nut off. I used a press to remove and install the bearings. I would recommend using a press even if you need to pay a shop to do that part. Also use a new axle nut(s).

So I ended up buying the Sir Tools hub/bearing extractor. The only difficultly was my front studs are longer so I needed to space out the two rings with a couple of sockets. Worked like a charm!
