Installing a new shifter boot

I have a 95 993 and the shifter boot was looking a bit worn. I purchased a new one on-line.

Has anyone ever changed one of these. I took the boot out of the counsel easily enough but and not sure about disconnecting the leather from the sifter ball. I though I might ask prior to tearing into it.

Any help would be appreciated.

If it is anything like the 964, you just pull straight up and wickle it a bit at the same time, takes a fair pull to get it off; watch when it comes loose, dont' hit yourself in the forehead.
