Rennline Engine Carrier Brace

From a Rennlist post, Rennline has developed an engine carrier brace.

You can buy the brace for $75 and weld it yourself, or send your mount in and they will weld and repaint for $250. Hopefully Pelican will carry the brace.

Yes, it looks very promising. I am thinking of installing one this winter when my engine is out for a tranny swap.

Does anyone know if you can remove the carrier with the engine still in the car?

Yes you can remove the carrier with the engine in place. Make sure to support the engine and you will also have to remove the rear engine tin. The whole job is pretty straight forward.

Just the engine tin? I just looked under there and it looked like I'd also have to remove the cat.

Rick, my mistake, I see your car is a 993, mine is 964, so you are right, you may have to remove parts of the exhaust system.

On second thought, I think I can get to those bolts with the cats in place. I hate the thought of using an open-ended wrench on those bolts, but don't think I can get a box, offset or flare wrench onto it. The stud looks too long and protrudes behind the cat.

I installed Rennline's brace last Winter with a set of Wevo engine mounts in my 964 C2. I had Rennline do the welding and fabrication. Welds were top notch and received a quick turn around. Great customer service. What you end up with is a very beefy unit. When you look at a stock unit and the ends where the bolts go through to chassis its no wonder they don't break more often especially in a track enviroment. I did the install when I did an engine drop.

They did a super fast turn around with mine. Very satisfied !

The stock carrier is just not a good design. I can't believe Porsche did that.

I think I'm gonna find a local shop to do the welding when I pull the engine out after Xmas. Is it pretty obvious where the welding needs to be done?

I did the same: rennline carrier + wevo mounts, after my carrier cracked in half. This was a 60k mile C4 Cab with no track time and no rust on the carrier. This should be done by everyone in my opinion. In fact, if Porsche was smart, they would buy the idea from Rennline and supersede the current carrier.

Can definitely be done with engine in. I did mine along with a valve adjust, so usual exhaust/heat shield/etc. removal.
