95 3.6 vacuum canister needed?

I'm tracking down a vacuum leak and it is my vacuum canister, there is a small crack in the hose fitting.
Is the canister needed?

The motor is a 95 non-vram transplanted in an early 911 with no power brakes and none of the extra stuff on the engine.

Yes, the vacuum can is needed to operate the resonance flap, new ones are cheap or if not cheap enough at least fix what you have
