Wheel spacing question

I just noticed that on my car I had to put a 6mm spacer on the passenger side rear wheel to get it at the same distance from the flare as the drivers side tire. Is this normal? I seem to remember somewhere that this is not uncommon.

Cheers, James

The spacing should be the same on both sides. You shouldn't have to put a spacer on one side to get an equal distance. I believe it's suggested, that if you go over 5MM, you should change wheel studs.

It's more normal than you would think.

Some guys(some are very fast too) do run the different spacers on different sides others ignore it.

Thanks Bill, I just got the car corner balanced and aligned by Dan Jacobs so i know the alignment is correct. I just mounted 18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cups and was getting some minor rubbing on the inside on the passenger side and noticed that the wheel is in a little further. The car has no damage and I noticed my '72 is similar. Interesting. I replaced the studs and added the 6mm spaced and all looks fine now.

Thanks for the info!

I'm running 265/35R 235/40Front. I'm not sure what my offsets are though.

Typical 964 fitments for track use are 8ET55 & 10ET65 w/ spacers to get down to ~ ET47

This is Barin Jacobs beautifully prepared RSA, w/ the above wheels and 245/35 & 275/35 x18 tires
