993 engine lid still stuck - Have tried traditional fixes
I have a 993 stuck engine lid and have tried traditional Pelicanite fixes to no avail. Is the latching mechanism accessable from below with cat removed? There is no emergency cable behind left side tail light and pushing, wiggling lid with
t-handle cable fully extended etc. has not worked. Time for major surgery but I do not know appropriate procedure. Any suggestions appreciated. EP Slick - Tucson

Here are a couple pictures I took which may help you to see the mechanism. It appears to be simple in nature only having two moving parts. I'm unable to see how it would jamb as long as your release cable were in tact.
First picture is "open", the next picture is "latched". There may be some access between the engine tin and the rubber gasket on the chassis. I'd think you could remove the two plugs on the engine tin which give access to the lower engine mount nuts then drop the motor down 1-2 inches for better access with your hand. edit, yes likely have to remove the cat but I did not crawl under to verify. Need more pictures? just ask. Last edited by Jim2; 07-01-2010 at 10:00 PM.. |

The lid on my 964 stuck a few months ago while my son and I were swapping the ducktail & OEM lid.
After many searches here, I found a post about inserting 2 coat hanger wires into the opening shown in Jim2's third pic, one from each side. (You kind of wiggle them in between the lid and the seal.) I didn't like the idea of metal to metal, so I sliced open about 3' of 12-2 electrical cable to provide two copper wires sheathed with plastic. PITA to get them in there, but once they were in, it was pretty easy to tug this way and that (with the latch held open with vise grips) to finally get it open. I now keep the those two pieces in the boot with my other tools.
