Spoiler Doesn't close all the way

Last month I decided to sell the FG ducktail on my C2, since I'd like to install an RS America wing, so I pulled the original lid out of the box (I just bought the car this spring) and noticed that the rear wall was shot. I received the part from our sponsor a few weeks ago and today I tackled the replacement.

Replacing the rear wall appeared to be pretty straightforward. BUT...now the spoiler doesn't go all the way down (using the console switch). It sits about an inch higher than flush. I pulled the top flap apart to see if that was the issue, but same result. Added a few washers to the wing mounting allen head bolts to see if the end of the bolt that protuded through the nut was getting the way. Nada.

Ended up just removing the rear wall for tonight and it sits down just as pretty as can be.

There is an adjustable screw on the motor that determines how far down the spoiler sits.

Sorry I don't have a picture. Have someone raise and lower the spoiler while you watch, then you'll understand.

Thanks for the tip. Given that, without the wall in place, the rear spoiler seats perfectly, would that adjustment have any impact?

It shouldn't make a difference. Maybe the wall isn't folding properly or is getting stuck on something.

OK, I continue to curse this...so finally took the time for pics with notes to see if anyone can help me figure out how to get the spoiler to close all the way when the rear wall is installed. The rubber lip (~3" wide) that runs along the rear of the opening on a 964 is different than the one in the 993s (oh, and it's NLA). If that is indeed the issue, can I just remove it? Would the part from the 993 fit?

Clearly, there's something about the way you're mounting the new wall that is causing the problem. Otherwise, the spoiler wouldn't close when the wall is removed.

I am going to be frustratingly vague here because it's been two years since I replaced my spoiler wall, but I had the same problem you had when I completed my first attempt at the exchange.

After looking at it, I discovered that upon removing the old wall, I had left the lowest portion of the wall attached to the car. Because it was difficult to see, and because that section of the old spoiler wall had a lip on it, it allowed me to unknowingly attach the new wall to it...Which of course, made the new wall too long and prevented the spoiler from retracting all the way.

All of that to say that you may want to take a look at how you're mounting the bottom of the new wall.

I replaced my spoiler curtain last week and it looks to me like you've got the curtain installed correctly but the rubber strip is blocking it.

I think that the rubber clips into your 'channel #1' and should be screwed onto the plastic grille....no glue anywhere. It sounds like the rubber isn't the standard part or has been bodged...

I would remove the rubber strip to see if the spoiler closes and then either buy a new rubber strip .... or just not bother putting it back.

Thanks for the insights guys. After getting some chores done today, my son and I will get back to work on the spoiler. First, we'll look for any "extras", then remove the whole rubber lip. BTW, the glue I used was to repair a tear in the rubber lip, not to affix it to anything else.

Does your spoiler, when retracted, look like it's at the same height relative to the deck lid as mine (in the latter group of pics that show it up and down, without the wall)?

There is an adjustment screw next to the spoiler motor. Take the cover off and you'll see it.
