964 valve guides?

One of the cars I am considering for my next DE Porsche is a 90-94 C2.

I am wondering if a 100k plus mile motor will be about due for valve guides if used as a track car.

Do 964 valve guides tend to ware like 3.2 Carrera's.

I guess I believe from my experience that the 3.2 Carrera with just over 100k if run on the track is probably going to puff some smoke in deceleration. If the clearances are out of spec this could create an issue under track duty.

How long are the 964 guides expected to last or are they considered bullet proof compared to some of the earlier model guides?

Thanks in advance.

Any of the air cooled 6s will be well worn and well on the way to needing top end work by 100k, it's no a an issue that is strictly limited to 3.2 or 964 or any other model.

Mu C3 was puffing some smoke from 70k till I t/p'd the first 3.6 at 100k.

They will run a long time like that.

evaluate any potential purchase on the individual merits of the car you are looking at.

w/ 964 the issues are
early ones up till ~'92 head gaskets or lack there of
dual mass flywheels early are worse that late but all are a failure waiting to happen
up till '93 no vent on the distributor hastened belt failure
C4 complicated and expensive to repair awd mechanism
oem shocks will certainly be shot

in general they are pretty reliable and relatively simple cars

i'll be the first one to jump in on this controversial topic ..

to summarise my opinion on the outcomes from reading the hundreds of posts on this topic .. most C4 owners rarely experience problems ... so yes they are complicated & parts are expensive, but if nothing goes wrong then it is irrelevant.
