DE Tires for 993
Who has some opinions on different track tires for a 993 for DE events?
Ran Kuhmos in autocross on a 911sc before, Falken 615 on another car, but now need new tires for 993.... Please give your thoughts, don't want to buy hoosiers or sport cups however... |

The hard part is most of the good cheap tires are not in our sizes, you can get the rear or fronts, but not both.
Are you looking for street tires, or "R" tires? |

I think a really good tire is the Nitto NT-01. Bought a set of 18" installed for under $800.
RA-1's are really good as well, but a little more expensive. The Nitto's, I think, are a combination of the R888's(good in the beginning) and RA-1's(better as they wear). They lasted and were predictable.

BTW : I have a set of 993 17" cup wheels i'm listing for sale w/MPSC's. Good track wheels and the tires easily still have several weekends left in them. Gives you a chance to try them.
225 front... 255 rear...

high dollar choice = Yoko Advan AD08 Falken 615K might be worth a look too. unless you have -3 degrees negative camber, the AD08s will likely work better than Nitto R comps. have fun!

I'm running Dunlop Direzza's for DE's on my 964 and find them to have most excellent grip and wear for a non R compound tire. I previously ran Falken 615 and they consistantly got greasy and slipped a lot at the 20 minute mark of a 30 minute DE session. I wouldn't recommend them for a fairly heavy car 964/993. They do have some success on the lighter cars such as the Miata's.
There are plenty of fast guys in the upper run groups running the Dunlop's within a second of their best using R compound tires. I just bought a new set from Tire Rack for $660.00 shipped sizes 225/255 17's. |

I run Hoosier R6. Needs lots of camber, but there is nothing better. High $$

I've been waiting for some more feedback from the original poster anyhow
for street radials Advan 007 BS RE11 Direxxa Star spec are all great choices at a reasonable price, PS2 is good but not such a good deal for R rubber Toyo RA1 Nitto 01 MPSC I use these as they last a long time making them good value(30days from the last set) I have an issue w/ the available Toyo/Nitto sizes though R6 is certainly faster when new but they do not last long enough for my budget

Was considering the v12 hankooks due to the cost, plus have had good experience with hankook s-2 on another track car, but cannot find in 18" sizes..
Have turbo twist wheels for track wheels, 18", so limited there. Have heard good things about the Nitto 01, but sizes may be the issue. Tires will be primarily for DE, plus will likely drive to the track with them as well. |

I have been through a couple of sets of Dunlop Direzza Star Specs and have found them to wear well, provide great grip, and are relatively inexpensive...

V12s are available in a wide assortment of 18" sizes for both NB and WB fitments. I use 245-35 and 295-30 they are not as heat tolerant as my Yoko's, but very good for the $$$$$$$$$. have fun.

I'm a RA-1 fan. Street legal, great wear, grips until it cords, predictable at the edge.
