'92 964 Cam Timing question

I am currently repairing leaks on the car and I replaced the o-ring and gaskets on the chain housings. Of course I need to retime the cams.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a device to tension the chains while setting timing? Hoping to avoid buying one.
I have done the timing on many SCs but never the 964. Help please.

Thanks,

If you search over at Rennlist I know there is a recent thread on cam timing in the 993 forum. There are a couple of pictures of both fancy and simple tools for this. Perhaps it will help.

I looked in rennlist and had no luck. Shouldnt say no luck because there is lots of info, I just didnt find what i was looking for.
Is there any reason you couldnt use a stud or some such and just install it under the stock cover in place of the hydraulic tensioner. Maybe even use a small turn buckle to make it adjustable.

Wow, that's my photo of my makeshift chain tensioner 2 posts up! Check out the whole post at: First time rebuilder gaining momentum!

The make-shift tensioner is a steering wheel puller Plews Tools 72-269). It worked perfectlyon two occasions.

I actually timed the cams yesterday. My chain tensioners turned out to be 3" X 3/8" drive extensions. I used the caps for the tensioners and the extensions were perfect. found 2 the same length and they seemed to work perfectly. I did try the steering whell puller first but the studs werent long enough to get good thread engagement.
Thanks for all of the help.
