964 Cup car replacement project

As promised in the Show me your 964 cup car string here are some pictures and a brief story of my new GT4 PCA club Race car .
I sold my 964 cup this spring and needed a replacement fast and decided to use my current Daily driver

Starting point: .

130k mile 90 C2 weight 3030 lbs with a quarter tank of fuel

Objective - 3.6 PCA GT4 narrowbody 2450 lb

Get rid or anything that adds weight that isnt necesarry. Ahhhgggggg!!!

Piles of parts separated from their former home .

leaving 2 days worth of glue removal from the interior

Remove Sunroof assembly

Reproduce the same cage as my cup car had.

Wow! Great job...

I'm looking at doing the sunroof delete on my road car as yet another step towards the C4 diet. Did you remove the inner skin of the roof as well to give you more head room? Do you think the end result of the welding and subsequent filling and painting would be satisfactory for road car quality?

Thanks and keep the photos coming!!

Inner cassette or pocket and inner panel on Sunroof were removed - I weighed everything and weight loss estimate is only 18 pounds
Yes perfectly fine for a street car if you do a good job and cover the inside with a headliner . I had it pretty smooth but the outer roof is right in your face and any defects would be very noticeable so in a rare occurence of spending money on cosmetic detail , I decided to take it to a pro for the final work - You can't tell it was ever done from the outside . He did ask me if I wanted a job after looking at it.

I will be removing a 70 911 S that I am finishing from my semi-heated garage this week , opening a space for the race car and will get some detail shots to go with some specifics.

I love that you're tearing apart a perfectly good C2 and making a race car out of it! Something I can relate to! (not the C2 part, but messing with a perfectly nice street car to make it more track worthy). Looks like fun!

This looks great. Much nicer than the poor guys that have to cut out half the car and weld it back together before they can even get started (pre-galvanized cars). I tried the link to the PDF but my adobe reader crashed ... please keep posting!

Well sorry it will be a little while before I can add some pictures and details. There has been a change in the batting order and I have moved a long hood into the work space. however here is a little detail for the time being.

Nice steering wheel - I had the exact same one in my SC.

Jeff, interesting tach. What a extra 400-600 rpm? Did you also change the engines rev limiter? Any additional upgrades to the valve train? Any updates?

Were the C2 Cup cars built on a C4 chassis?

I think iI read the latter 993's may have been as it may have been a stiffer unit.

I wonder if there is any difference between the 964 C2 and C4 chassis?

Oh, that's funny... Jeff, I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one with this sickness!

For, the 930 is almost done.. but the paint is still too nice for the track, the 73 which used to go to the track.. has a fresh windows out bare metal respray and it's orignal pan etc.. so now its too nice for the track. What's a guy to do?

Oh, how bout the little Strosek bodied 78SC that follwoed you home.. perfect!

See you at Hershey!

Paul
