Oil circulation issue - 993 C4
Hi everybody!
Just need some opinion about the following issue: I recently did a major service on my car, changing many components. Regarding the engine, only change some obvious things (gaskets, some covers, fluids, spark plugs, spark plug wiring, etc.). Now, when I start the engine early in the morning, sounds like my neighbor flush the toilet. Sounds like the oil is moving from one place to another, mixed with air - that might be the cause of the specific noise. I happens for the first two minutes and then stops. At the same time, engine noise, cold or hot, it is not like it was before the service: sounds like the valves are clicking - like low pressure on the heads. Yes, the engine was filled with the correct amount of oil. The oil pressure gauge is working fine and doesn't show any wrong values Any ideas?

Sounds like my 96. I have had quiet 993 and 964, but my 96 is mt first gurgler. Somebody posted about this and cured it with an oil change using OEM filters.

I've also read on the forums, that oil filter choice can have an effect on this. I believe switching to a Mahle filter helped.

Does the person who did the oil change knows that he should put 6 litres, warm up the engine and refill until half level on oil stick ? Oil pressure gauge is not here for measuring quantity of oil. what exactly has been done to engine ? there is a gurgle that happens when oil temp heats and temp level is around 8:30 on a clock, the oil thermostat opens and oil flows to front oil cooler. never when you start on a cold engine |

Hello geolab,
Thank you for your input. Yes, the person who changed the oil, knows that. I know what you mean about the oil pressure gauge... I just thought that if there was not enough oil in the engine, the pressure would drop... From your explanation, sounds like the thermostat is always open...? What was done on the engine: new exhaust, new chain housing covers and gasket, new valve cover gaskets, new oil filters, spark plugs, oil thermostat (not the engine one - the one inside wheel arch), some oil hoses, lambda sensor and other small bits.

Have you checked the oil level in the tank when warm, running and on level ground? Do you have a Mahle or Porsche recommended filter?

AlexJ, you should try to post your question on Rennlist. The 993 forum is very active over there.
