Porsche Crest Engine Mounts removal

Hi,

I am in the process to upgarde the engine cross brass with a renforcing kit and I had everthing ready to be unscrewed, the engine was supported; but I was not able to undo the bolts between the engine mounts to the brace from under. I used a electric impact (Poor man), but the bolts were not getting loose!

Since I was tired, I just stop, however, usually everthing come loose easy and I am not sure why these two bolts where not getting loose... Any advice on somthing I migth do wrong. Should I used a air impact, should I heat the bolt (A lot of wire and dirt around!), soak them with penetrating oil, please help.

Thanks,

Pat

Sorry if I state the obvious, but you have to hold the bolt on the top while you loosen the nut from the bottom. Not easy to do even with long arms, but it can be done. Also, you indicated a lot of rust - use something like PB blaster to loosen the rust. After applying let it sit for an hour or so to soak, then try to loosen the nut.
I don't remember the torque for this bolt. It can be loosened with a regular wrench. You may have to remove the rust further to get the nut to turn.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Steve

When I was working on my exhaust studs, I pretty well try everything. The air gun/stud extractor success rate was above 90%...
The trick is taking your time.

Start at 20lb (yep its pretty low) for 30 sec, stop, spray. Repeat in 10lb increment. You'll be done in less then 5 minutes.

Have fun

If you are talking about the big nut under the engine mount, its torque value is 63ft-lb. It's quite a lot. As Steve said, PB blaster and a large wrench with a long extension usually work.

Are you talking about this engine mount on the body or the steel engine support bracket mounted to the engine?

Guys,

The bolts I am talking about is shown above from bazar01... this is the engine support I am trying to undo (from the bottom).

Thanks for all of you guys, this really usefull info. I purchase a air impact gun and I will borrow a compressor to get more torque to undo these two bolts. I also soaking the two bolts every 4-6 hours with BP blaster.

I will try this afternoon or tonigth, depending on the kids and the wife.

Again, thanks for all these advice, I keep the update.

Guys,

Got these two bolts loosen, Thanks for the good advice, I surely beleive the BP blaster was for something since I use my electric impact wrench (My friend did not brougth is compressor yet and I had two hours free of kids).

It is a good thing I got this engine support out...I was dommaged a little bit, I will install the reenline renforcement and get it repair as well. I migth do a additional renforcement were it was dommage, just in case.

Also, is anybody know how to identify a good or bad engine support, I migth change them since I have them already took apart.

Thanks for your help....and hopefully I can do the same for someone.

Pat

I have a support if you need it. If the stud is loose or the rubber is broken away from the upper part, it would be bad and should be replaced.

Thanks,
Mark
