Question Help! I am suffering from CRS...

Ok, so the new to me car has arrived! At some point in it's 15 yr old life a PO replaced the spoiler with a TurboS tail. When they did this an extra support strut was not added, but at some point in the past I recall seeing a double support strut set for just this application but being older, I can't remember where I saw it or who was selling it. Am I going nuts or does anyone else remember this part?

I forgot to attach this - 1996 TipS fairly basic set-up but engine numbers came back in the right zone (180 to 185 psi) to overlook the minuses (chrome twist rims, manual seats, arm rest lid warpage)

It's not a Turbo S, or Aero kit II wing, it's a aftermarket one. Are you talking about the gas struts that hold up the trunk lid? There should be 2 one on each side, if you look in the engine bay, near the sound pad, you will see the little tabs that the struts mount to.

The wheels are also not chrome, but polished, Porsche never made a chrome alloy wheel.

Well, I don't know what wing the car has - it came on the car. But I know I sow a double strut set-up in the past for conversion like this one. Maybe Automotion? Are they still around?

I still do not understand what you are asking.

Does, the spoiler/engine cover not stay up on it's own? You want to add another hood strut to keep it up?

Chances are, the struts are just old, & only need to be replaced. There should be one on each side of the spoiler.

Do you have any other pictures of your car? The rear rim looks like it's sticking out father on the drivers side, but it might be the angle.

I have seen that discussed over of the 911 forum. Does your car have the required brackets on the right side hinge and fire wall? If so you can just install a new strut on that side.
Cheers Richard

Thanks for the replies. I think the struts back there are just old and tired. Don't really know about the twists, polihed or not - my Targa Speedlines will be going on when I replace the pads and rotors. Got the aluminum/white gauges in that I have had sitting for a while so the car magically lost 50000 miles, lol. Took pics to show the two speedo's side by side. Atiwe three spoke wheel is in - so no more steering wheel operated shifting. I will get over it. Now to get the roll bar, newer seats (more power - so I will be listing the current ones) splitters and turbo style ducts painted and in the nose. Then I will be ready for so fun - I hope. Still have to change out all the fluids, belts, plugs, wires, caps and rotors - it never ends, sigh.

But someone on Rennlist told me that the double strut set-up is/was made for SC's and that vintage 911s.

I added a heavy Whale Tail and my struts were not strong enough to support the added weight. Here is a solution that I did recently using an additional pair of struts, long screws, spacers, washers and lock nuts.

The lid actually pops up upon release, and takes a little force to close.

Not sure about the 993's but the 964's had two hinge designs - one for the normal C2/C4 motorized spoiler and one for the turbo or RSA. These second hinges had another ear on them for another strut, as well as adapter plates for the different spoiler. The cars themselves had two mounting points for struts also.

I'll see if I can find a pic

Lou, thanks for the pics - Stablus are the OEM brand, aren't they? I am going to have to get out to the garage soon I suppose. But the car is a plain jane 1996 NB Speed Yellow cab so I guessing it has the lowest level of strut bracket out there.

Craig, thanks for the page number. I will look it up and see.

You might try replacing the two struts first to see if that does the trick for you. There are mentions of the four strut install creating problems with the shut lines and or deforming the lid in the area that the struts attach.
