Phase 7

Well I've started the ball rolling on Phase 7, which will be to update the rear suspension to RS spec

for reference here is Phase 1

last year in phase 6 I did the front Rs uprights and second GT2 oil cooler
Phase 6

parts ordered so far
993.331.045.80 Kinematic Control Arm x2 RS, top rear
900.067.323.09 M12x1.5x90 hex head bolt x2 K/T inner
993.331.219.01 eccentric washer x2 K/T inner
999.507.384.09 M12x1.5 nut x2 K/T inner
999.084.449.09 VM12x1.5 nut x2 K/T outer

993.331.041.81 A arm /L x1
993.331.042.81 A arm /R x1
900.378.052.09 M12x1.5x80 hex head bolt x2 a/a trailing
999.084.445.09 VM12x1.5 nut x2 a/a trailing
900.378.051.09 M14x1.5x100 bolt x2 a/a leading
900.380.012.09 VM14x1.5 nut x2 a/a leading
900.380.009.09 VM12x1.5 nut x2 a/a ball joint nut

993.331.047.03 Camber control arm 96- x2 not RS specific, top forward
993.331.217.80 Eccentric screw x2 c/l, top forward inner
993.331.219.80 Eccentric washer x2 c/l, top forward inner
999.084.445.09 VM12x1.5 nut x2 c/l, top forward, inner
999.084.449.09 VM12x1.5 nut x2 c/l top forward outer

the difference between the early 993 supension, later 993 suspension and RS is in the stiffness of the bushings, mine will be set up for min kinetic-toe intrusion

The stiffest bushes are used on the RS and can be identified by the green dot, same as used when identifing the RS sway bar bushes

Yeah, the world's most expensive turnbuckles.

I like where you are going with your approach. Starting to work on my winter punch list as well, but not nearly as in-depth.

Bill,
Are you, or have you removed the rear wiring harness for the ABS and pad wear sensors? If so, I could use two of the rubber grommets that secure the harness to the chassis as shown below. I cannot find a Porsche P/N in the PET.

Thanks,
Mark

Bill,
I take it from your answer that the 993 uses the same grommet on the wiring harness. Any thoughts on how to obtain a P/N for the grommet? Is it worth a trip to the dealer with the picture above? Is a Porsche graveyard my only hope?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark I just looked all over the 964 PET and did not see that grommet listed. That does not mean it is not a part, but it could be part of the harness assy.

Look up 964.612.185 - I don't see a picture of it, but this is the rear brake harness, I bet the grommet is part of that...

Grommet is part of the harness...I picked up a used set from a 944, cut them off and added them to my lines...

Don,
Thanks. (Sorry for the thread hijack) I searched PP for 964-612-185-00 and did see a listing for a "Brake wear harness" for $311.50. I'll keep my eyes open for a used, burnt, or broken one to get a pair of those grommets. Since Turbo3.6 found some on a 944, it seems they are common to several models.

Thanks,
Mark

Aside from the harder bushings, is there any difference?

A friend did this job last year, he couldn't find any geometric difference. As I proceed I'll certainly be looking to see differences but as the fellow that did it already is an extremely meticulus sort, I don't expect to find anything.

None that I can see, but putting them side by side will be the telling test.

The weathers been brutal here, so no progress

Started the dis-assembly
step 1 drop the rear suspension to replace the side-mounts, 4 bolts( and a few smaller ancillaries and shes down

The bushes on my rubber mounts were corroded to the al. sidemounts some effort was needed to pop them out.,

The new ones slide in easily
