964 - what tyres?

from my other thread, i tested a 964 tonight and am pursuing the purchase following a PPI.

the tyres on the car need changing and i need to price some up locally to use as a bargaining chip. it currently sits on cup alloys with Pirelli P Zero Rossa's -

255/40 ZR 17 N3 [rear]
205/50 R 17 N3 [front = may have missed the z when writing it down]

what is the current consensus of opinion on the best dry weather tyres on the 964? wet grip is NOT an issue out here

Lots of good choices
Dunlop Direzza * spec
Bridgestone RE11
Continental Extreme Contact DW

there are others but those 3 are a good start

The ones mentioned above are exactly what I would of said, I personally just went with a set of the Extreme Contact DW. Another thing to consider maybe would be bumping up to 225's in the front.

Hi, I was in a similar situation recently. My pzero's were getting very worn. As my car is more of a garage queen and not used as often as I want at the moment. I asked my mechanic what he would recommend as a cheap set to hold me over for a couple of years until I started to drive on a more regular basis. He suggested 'Federal tyres' ss595's. I'd never heard of them and were reasonable enough price wise to give them a go. They are Australian I gather and so far am impressed. Very quite as opposed to my pirellis and bridgestones and dry grip seems excellent. Online reviews slate them but so far so good for me.

Thanks guys.

Apparently tyres are only road legal for 4yrs from date of manufacture out here, so a sticky tyre should be fine. The conti's look great value though so I think that's where I'll end up.

Don't forget the Hankook R-S3 also - it's on par with the Star Specs for maximum grip honors

You could also look at the Michelin Super Sports.

I just bougth Continental Extreme Contact DW and I love them.
Also I did bump my front the 225/45é17 up front and this help for the initial turn in, but if the car is to low and you have rougth road, this my rub inside the fender lip...I had to raise my a little bit.
