97 993 central lock problem

Hi all,
Central locking just went kaput on my 993. Further, the doors will not lock with the key/button. Drivers door will manually lock with key. Is there a way to lock the passenger door??? Mine has an unremovable plug in it...?
Further info.: the immobilizer does work and starts the car. Anybody have something like this happen? Just happened, searching for clues.
I quickly checked the fuse box... central locking mechanism not listed in row of fuses...? Is it tied into something else?
I remember someone telling me once there is a solenoid in one of the doors.

Thanks in advance.

Check your remote's battery. Passenger door plug is removable. On my 993C4S it is.

There is a solenoid to which a metal pushrod (orig) is attached. It is common for the original pushrod socket to break. Replacement is plastic. It is also common for solenoid to die and also the secondary contacts in the solenoid. You can scan it with a hammer to easily diagnose.

Anyone know if the Durametric will read this? The 96 I picked up has the same problem. I still need to use the remote to start the car though.

Just an update in case anyone else has this problem going forward. The controller (under the passenger seat) was tested and found to be bad. Upon replacement with a new unit, everything worked fine - the p/n is 928 618 260.03 And, if completely unplugged the immobilizer will not work.
