Rear Window Zipper Broken-'90 C4-Cab...Problem Solved

Beautiful weekend up here in North East New Jersey...80' and bright sun both days...

Needless to say, We had the top down both days! Today,After backing the Porsche down the driveway, I put the top up as usual but this time I had a terrible issue with the zipper on the rear plastic window. It had always been somewhat "sticky" when trying to zip it open or closed.

As I was trying to zip it closed , the "clasp" that draws the two zipper seams together broke apart. As it was getting dark, I threw a large tarp over the car and covered it as I usually do with two large car covers.

The top is relatively new ,only about 5 years old and the zipper looks to be in great condition. Here are a couple of pics of the broken part...

Anyone here been down this road before? I know that if I had a new "clasp", I would probably be able to get it "meshed" with the zipper again... is this part even available at all? ...Do I have any options?

Well, after a day of deliberation, I decided to visit our local outdoor and sports
supply store in search of a zipper repair kit, thanks to "Google Search."

(This type of zipper is a heavy duty style and is used extensively in luggage, tents,
spa covers and...You guessed it ...convertible top rear windows and Jeep side and rear windows.)

Not only did I find what I needed, I had my choice of two and did not have to buy the whole repair kit...I was able to buy them separately...$3.75 each!

Looks like this...

Same manufacturer, Too. It was a YKK #10 C (Coil type zipper)

Hope this helps someone if this happens to them.

Best Regards,

Tony
