I just can't wrap my head around the inflated prices. I'm sure it will sell, but this is getting absurd. A brand new 997 GT3 MSRP is 115K USD. A brand new 991 GT3 will debut later this month, will likely be priced at about the same give or take a few chips. Hell you can almost buy two 993TTs at that price.

The 964's are getting really popular, in Europe.
Nice air cooled cars are not being sold often, anymore. The big dealer here(in Vancouver) says that nice ones basically go in the back door, and out the front........ Waiting lists ........ This will happen in the US, as the economy(hopefully) picks up. |

I'm curious is the 964 RS street legal in Canada? Unfortunately we are still a few years away from the 25 yr exemption.
Maritime Blue is such a fantastic color for these cars. ![]()

Possibly, kinda, sort of. It depends how you interpret the rules. A car older than 15 years, while eligible for import to Canada, might still need to be registered in the RIV program and be inspected to meet Transport Canada requirements. I had a CBSA person tell me I had to meet the Transport Canada Inspection. I had someone else experienced in car imports tell me if the car was not coming from the US it did not need to be registered in RIV or inspected as long as it was manufactured to Canadian or US safety standards (and how do you prove that without inspection?). I had a person at an authorized RIV inspection station tell me in ALL cases the imported vehicle did require RIV registration and inspection.
IMO you could import it but it would need to pass inspection just like any 964 older than 15 years Anyway back to the original question... Would a 964 RS be street legal in Canada? If not what would it take to make it so?

I do know that the Canadian RIV inspection is absolutely beyond ridiculous..
Drive to Canadian Tire. Make sure horn works. Check lights. Check vin. Hilarious. |

Well 15 yrs certainly makes more sense than our stupid rules for import at 25 yrs. These cars don't have catalytic converters or air bags. Will those need to added to allow for Canadian registration?
Also do you know if this RS is a Touring, Basic, or NGT version? Thanks.

Like i said.....drive to Canadian Tire, check the horn, make sure the lights go on, check the vin. If they are busy, they may not do anything other than collect the money and check the vin. That's what they did with my last(imported) motorcycle. I didn't even take it out of the back of the truck.
You have to air care the car, if you live in the lower mainland of BC. The guys there do not even know what a catalytic converter looks like. : ) I air cared my Euro Carrera many times, never a question. Never a failure. I do not know what variant this particular RS is. I can find out. |

Also, it is true that the Euro/real RS did not come equipped with airbags but they did have a cat in most markets.

Okay, thanks for the description of this car and also the correction about the cat converter. It will be interesting to see the asking price.
