Battery Disconnect
My '91 964 Turbo is doing the battery drain thing through the climate control unit circuit. Haven't had much luck finding the exact cause of that and making a permanent fix, not for lack of trying. My temp fix has been to put a battery disconnect switch on the car, but I'm worried about upsetting the onboard computer gods by doing this. Anyone have any idea if this will mess up anything?

If you're not having any drivability problems (where a code my be stored) then you shouldn't have a problem disconnecting the battery.

Same issue on mine. CCU fan drains the battery unless i disconnect at the battery when done driving for the day.
Location is fla so your outcome may vary but i've found 0 issues with drivability when warm/hot days. However over the winter where lows of the morning were say upper 30's to lower 50's i did find it ran/idled odd for about 20 minutes or so. |

I have a battery cut-off switch on a 95 993 and always use it and no problem except having to set the clock

Been switching the battery OFF for extended storage and parking in my garage on trickle charge for the last 4 years with no issues.
Just do a spirited drive when you do drive it.

Pulling out the CCU and replacing transistor T1 (the usual culprit) is not very hard and takes less time to do than to install a battery cutoff switch and resetting the clock every time you drive. Just my 2 centavos.

Here's the Rennlist thread I used to help guide me when I repaired my CCU and resolved the fast battery drain issue.

Thanks for all the inputs. I do plan to work out the real problem and fix it, it is not my nature to just band-aid something. In fact, I get a bit edgy when something doesn't work right. The kill switch was available, thought it would add some extra security as well.
