Dan,
This probably doesn't help, but my 1992 M64/01 engine doesn't have those holes.
Check which engine type is stamped on the case where the temp sensor is sitting in my picture. It should be M64/01 for all 89-94 964's unless it is a tiptronic, RS or turbo.

hi billjam
and very thanks!
yes my engine is M64/01 first series 1989, I'am to rebuilt for fit on 3.2 body....
the problem is what are those holes, I would close the chains and do not know whether to leave the holes so or cap them and I do not remember when I unmounted if they were already empty))

I see that you do a transplant 3.6 ... there are many 3d ... but I'd like to share some information

very thanks! GRAZIE!

Hi Dan,

I had my '90 3.6L engine rebuilt last winter after doing the tear-down myself. Here are a few photos I took where you can see the same holes. Hard to 100% certain, but it looks like they are left as-is on mine? I don't remember noticing them... do they go all the way through?

Tom

hi Tom and thanks!
Apparently not actually go anywhere....I do not know if you leave them open or close them...close them with Loctite or similar

Try asking the smart people in the Rebuilding forum- you may be more likely to get an answer there, some of the contributors have seen the inside of lots of pcar motors.

I'm rebuilding an 89 as well, I'm not sure if my engine has had any retro fit from Porsche regarding the cylinder head gaskets. If not I was not planning to upgrade assuming there's nothing warped.

Is there a better idea, what are you guys doing??
