Adding Duck tail to my 964?
Hi,
Please forgive me, but I can't seem to find the answer in a forum search. I'm really considering deleting my rear spoiler and adding a duck tail. With that said, how difficult will the process be given the electronics involved? I've seen several duck tails for sale in the past for a long-nose, but no DTs made specifically for 964s. How different are they? Do I need any type of adaptor to make the fit? Can anyone recommend a specific manufacturer? TIA, HB

GT Racing and Getty Design both sell fiberglass replacement deck lids, wings, etc. that fit the 964. You should be able to find what you want from one of them. The 964 other than the RS America has a different hinge setup than the earlier 911s so it's not a simple bolt-on change if you use a 911 deck lid on your car. (It can be done, but it seems to me that sanding and painting the fiberglass part designed for the 964 is easier to do and easier to reverse than swapping in an older type deck lid.)

Get a Stratton ducktail. He can build on on a donor 964 decklid.

Nothing wrong with the Getty. It's an all fiberglass design where the stratton is made on a steal decklid shell. Getty doesn't make a 964 version so you need hinge adaptors where the Stratton will bolt right on. I personally prefer the steel decklid.

Thanks for the leads folks. Just curious, how do I keep the tail warning light from coming on if there is no wing to activate?

It is if you use the nifty adapter mounts! I thought our host sold them but a quick search didn't turn them up. It was a snap When I put my Carrera tail on the wife's 964. Probably one of the easiest mods I done to a Porsche in decades! Even came w/the proper spaces so you don't crush the stock hinges.

I hope it helps. For four years now I still haven't got around to putting a big obnoxious wing on my white 964, even though both my license plate and my race number are references to Moby Dick.

Getty makes a very good Duck tail if you need to save money or for a race car by using the factory metal engine the fit is perfect from the very start the only difference in the 911 engine lids are the mounting holes. I make Ducks for 911's, 964 993 and Turbo's and very soon I will have a Duck tail for the 996. In short it's all in what you want to spend and what you what it to look like when you are showing off your car....thick fiberglass edges or factory gap all around the metal base glass top Duck Tail, if you need the best call me there's over 100 of my Ducks all over the world.
Thank You
