Newbee .. Need help
I am new here and own 2 E36 turbo bmw's and most likely going to sell them this winter . The BMW circuit is turning into **** (aftermarket/society)and people might as well buy Honda's . I will be in the market for a 993 and wanted to know if I am better off starting with a turbo or doing a aftermarket set up from POWERHAUS or another company . I want around the same power I had with the BMW's or a bit more (550tq 530hp) . Can you guys help me or lead me into the right direction ! Thank you

What are your plans for this car? Will you track it?
If you plan to track it, I'd buy a factory Turbo. The aftermarket Turbo set-ups can deliver impressive numbers, but reliability isn't up to par with the factory stuff. And with the current market, it might actually be cheaper than building one yourself, when you factor in brake and suspension upgrades necessary to keep up with the extra power. If you start with a 993TT, it is pretty easy to get the numbers you posted, and that is just the starting point. And reliability and driveability/durability won't be an issue. My personal favorite is the '94 Turbo 3.6. It's 2 wheel drive and much lighter than the 993TT, and nearly as much performance potential. They can be picked up for quite a bit less than a 993TT.

Oh my! That was a bargain! My personal favorite.
As much as I love driving the 993TT, the '94 Turbo 3.6 is just a purer Turbo. Still requires skill to harness all it's power. And I love throttle steering a 2 wheel drive car. Then there's the light weight issue. Can't beat it. if you agree with me, then go for the '94 Turbo. I definitely think history will look back favorably on this car as the last pure Turbo. Quite rare besides.

I have driven a factory 993TT and ridden in a 3.6 Turbo.
I understand the '94 is more difficult to pilot, but I can vouch that the 993TT is an absolute rocket ship and the handling is out of this world. Made an L-turn at 50 mph and it just did it, no roll, nothing. And the brakes, OH MY!

Lou,
I'd go with 993 TT, it's a buyer's market out there and I've seen a lot of low mileage with good prices. You may also want to visit www.rennlist.com for advices as well. I switched from M3 to 993 couple years ago and I never regret it. Regards, Ron (Rennlist & DTM Power member) |
