Engine stopped while driving

My 95 993 cabriolet stopped running while driving. 1st time it left me stranded and had towed to home. Has 37,000 miles and is driven only occasionally. There is electrical and when I turn the key to the on position, I hear the relay click in engine compartment (although not sure if it's the fuel pump relay). Is there a previous post or can anyone help with the steps needed to diagnose the problem. Totally sudden onset with no warning problems previously. Check engine light was displayed and then all idiot lights came on when the engine stopped. Thanks for your help.

Most likely a failure of your DME relay. Search is your friend.

Thanks for the tip. I followed some threads and have tried jumping from contact 30 to 87b and the fuel pump started to run. I disassembled the DME relay and tried to re-solder several different spots but did not work. I've ordered a new one. If that's the fault, I'll order a spare as well (as suggested by most).

Did you get the engine to run while the fuel pump was running while 30 and 87b was jumpered? Or just the fuel pump was running?

Make a 3 wire jumper and plug into 30, 87 and 87b. You should be able to start the car with this jumper in place. If you cannot, then it's not the DME relay.

I just did the 3-way jump and the car started. It confirms the DME. After reading about the part, I have the old part number and have the new/improved part arriving. I was going to wait to try the new one before also buying a spare. I will order the spare now. Thanks for your help.

Glad you found the issue. When you get the new relays, take a minute to plug both in and make sure they function properly. I had my DME relay go bad and the replacement I purchased was bad out of the box....No fun there. Some folks take new relays right out of the box and solder them. I just carry a spare I know is functional. Enjoy your car...
