Question replace cigarette lighter with...

Hi all,
I'm need to replace my cigarette light. Since I don't smoke, I thought there might be an alternative that would allow me to use modern adapters for charging electronics, like cell phones.

I tried plugging in my Samsung Galaxy S6 car charger and noticed that the adapter doesn't fit snuggly in the cigarette socket, nor does is charge the phone.

Any suggestions? Brand names, links, etc.

BTW, Do you remove the cigarette lighter the same way you remove on in an early model 911? I replaced my old cigarette lighter in my 70 911T by taking the radio out first and reaching through to unscrew the nut holding the cigarette lighter in place....if I remember correctly.

TIA,
Heinz

I had the exact same issue yesterday with my new to me 964.

Seems the lighter socket is very shallow.

This is a thread about the 993 cigarette lighter, but I think the 993 and 964 are the same... 993 cig lighter -- too big for modern plugs!! - Rennlist Discussion Forums

The first Valentine 1 I owned came with a grey plastic sleeve that went over the lighter plug and made it larger to fit the lighter socket in the 16V GTI I had at the time; the german lighter sockets are bigger for some reason.

In my 964 I just use a rolled up piece of paper as a shim.

You can get lighter-plug USB ports. Like these from Amazon.
